Seamer Atkinson Compounds the English team's Injury Concerns.

'Significant concern' for the English camp after Atkinson goes off due to a hamstring issue.

Gus Atkinson added to the injury concerns plaguing England after leaving the playing area during Saturday's play in the Melbourne Test in the Ashes series.

Atkinson pulled up with his hamstring after the final ball in his spell during the morning session.

Team management indicated the 27-year-old had experienced "tightness" and required time away from the action for further assessment "during the day".

The final Test in this Ashes battle in Sydney gets underway this coming Sunday.

The English side has already lost strike bowlers one seamer with a knee problem and Jofra Archer because of a side injury during this series.

Matthew Fisher was added to the party as cover for Wood.

Atkinson struggled early in the series, taking just three wickets.

He was left out of the third Test, before being recalled for the fourth Test as Archer's replacement.

The county bowler performed better in the fourth Test, taking two wickets with the ball, and scoring 28 runs with the bat among just a trio of teammates to reach double figures.

Post a single over in Australia's second innings, he came back for the second day's play and dismissed the nightwatchman Scott Boland caught behind.

Unfortunately, on the final ball of his spell, he delivered a change of pace to Travis Head and promptly felt his left hamstring.

Atkinson was brought back for the fourth Ashes Test after being left out the Adelaide game.
