It might not have been at the same level as pardoning holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a second term in office.

“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”

The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The animal, donated by a local firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people yelling “6-7” – originating from a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently made “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A New Life

The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.

“It embodies the character of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Every time, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”

Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
