The Denver Nuggets star secured the NBA's MVP title in 2021, 2022 and 2024.

Thrice-crowned NBA Most Valuable Player Jokic suffered a "heartbreaking" knee injury as the Nuggets lost 147-123 at the Heat.

The star player was hurt towards the end of the second quarter during an inadvertent contact with teammate Jones.

The other player stepped on the foot of the MVP, and he immediately collapsed to the ground clutching his knee.

The star, who tops the NBA season in boards and assists, had a score of 21 points and eight dimes in the matchup prior to sustaining the problem.

He will have an MRI on the following day to assess the seriousness of the injury.

"Immediately, Jokic realized he was hurt," said Denver head coach Adelman.

"This is part of the NBA. Any player who suffers an injury, it's tough to see, especially a player as talented as Jokic. We will know more on Tuesday."

"We will continue as a team. Obviously, currently, I'm more worried primarily about him as a person and the letdown of going through a situation of that nature."
